COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Salsa Level 1 (Beginner Fundamentals) This
six week course is where it all begins for the beginner salsa dance
enthusiast. No prior dance experience is expected or needed. In
these dance classes the student, male and female, will learn the
fundamental principles of partnering, dance floor etiquette, timing,
basic foot work, full and half turns, ‘cross body lead’,
and useful salsa dance patterns.
Salsa: Levels 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E Level
2 is for students who have completed the ‘fundamentals’
course or for those who have a secure grasp of the basic elements
of salsa and partnered dancing. At Levels 2 ( A, B, C, D
& E) the salsa student will continue to build on movement
learned and completed at the previous ‘beginner fundamentals’
salsa classes. Level 2 has five sections A, B, C, D & E. In
each of these sections new variations, new footwork/steps and salsa
turn patterns will be taught. A variety of new combinations and
sequences will be created that will enhance memory, continue development
of technique while reinforcing timing principles and partnering
skills. As well, Cumbia style salsa, Merengue and Bachata will be
introduced at this level throughout the 5 sessions.. At the completion
of Levels 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E the student will
be ready to go on to Level 3 confident and armed
with a full repertoire of salsa dance movement.
Salsa: Levels 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D & 3E Level
3 salsa classes are for the dance student who has completed
the Fundamentals level and the five Level 2 courses or
for the dancer who has a firm grasp of salsa technique
at the Level 2 level. Level 3 has Five sections 3A, 3B,
3C, 3D & 3E. In each of the Level 3 sections new and
challenging combinations will be taught along with increased importance
placed on turn patterns and behind-the-back work. Additionally,
more emphasis will be placed the dancer’s ability to link together
combinations with ease, style and control. As well, there will be
on-going emphasis placed on the continued development of good timing
technique, added development of partnering skills, lead and follow
and floor craft (‘dance floor etiquette’). There will also be further
development of the Cumbia style salsa.
Merengue Fundamentals A
fun and lively dance very popular in the Latin dance and salsa
dance clubs. In the two merengue dance classes the student,
will learn the fundamentals of
timing, basic foot work, simple turns and useful merengue dance
patterns.
Bachata Fundamentals Bachata
is another very popular dance from the Dominican Republic
with similarities to the merengue. In the two bachata dance
classes the student, will learn the timing
fundamentals, basic foot work, simple turns and useful bachata
dance patterns.
